We left Carcassone and traveled to Marseillette, covering 23 km. and going through 7 locks, including one double and one triple. The day was beautiful and we traveled through several of the locks with a French couple and their beautiful 90 year old boat.
Here's Ruth, at the bow managing the lines.
A beautiful spot to moor along the canal, right next to the village cemetery.
Up early exploring the village, we came across a tractor pulling a wagon full of grapes. We found out later that they are picking grapes very early in the morning (4 - 7 am) to avoid the heat.
Every cemetery or village square has a memorial to WWI, listing its residents who died in the war. Many towns lost a generation of young men. Placques on these memorials also commemorate the WWII dead.
